This year and in record time, the United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County surpassed its goal of raising $122,570 by received donation pledges totaling $124, 092.91 for their 2012 Campaign.

Although the 2012 campaign ended in December, the United Way is still accepting donations and expect their donation pledges to continue rising until the 2013 campaign starts in August.

This is the 26th year since Cleveland has been affiliated with United Way Worldwide, although the United Givers Fund, which was also committed to helping Bolivar County through fundraising, began in Cleveland in 1965.

The money that the United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County raises will not be given out to individuals, but rather to help non-profit organizations within Bolivar County like the American Red Cross, Bolivar County Literacy Council and Helping Hands/Community Assistance, which are dedicated to helping the citizens of Bolivar County.

Some of the donations received will be given to a few national non-profit organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the U.S.O.

To ensure that the funds are being used to help of Bolivar Countians, the organizations are required to reapply for funds each year and declare what the money they receive will be used for.

Donations are received not only from residents of Bolivar County, but also from former residents throughout the country, who want to give back to Bolivar County and request their donations to go to the United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County.

“I would like to say a very big thank you to the community for their past support because without the support of the community we would not have met our goal,” said Executive Director Peggy Davis.

Donations can be made through payroll deductions through employers, a billing schedule that meets the donor’s needs, or through a one-time contribution.
