Born November 17, 1939, to Edmond Carroll and Mingnon Mann Coghlan in a primitive cabin near the Mississippi River levee in western Bolivar County, he attended Benoit School, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1957. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Germany and Alaska.
Following his military service he graduated from Delta State College in Cleveland and retired from Gaines Oil Co. in Cleveland.
For the past two years he lived near Nashville, N.C., near his son Will.
He was always cheerful and his smiles and storytelling will long be missed.
He was prceded in death by his parents, a son Thomas Allen Coghlan Jr.; and two sisters Audrey Horn and Helen Nokes.
Tommy is survived by three children Teresa Coghlan Tucker of Pace, Fla., Will Coghlan, Nashville, N.C., and Leigh Coghlan Pickering, Asheville, N.C.; six granddaughters, Courtney, Torey, Hailey and Anna Grace Tucker, Greyson and Caitlin Coghlan; two sisters Judith Coghlan Lewis of Nesbit and Carolyn Coghlan Gremillion of Madison; four brothers Edmund "Pete” Coghlan of Georgia, Charles Coghlan of Benoit, Gene Coghlan, Ill., and James Coghlan, Louisianna; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Momeyer Baptist Church in North Carolina.
