According to co-chairman Mary Elizabeth Jeffreys, all proceeds raised will go towards United Way’s 2011 campaign.
“This is an additional fundraiser to help reach our goal of 100 percent and right now we are at about 92 percent,” said Jeffreys.
“We have a total goal to raise $121,750 for our 2011 campaign for the United Way of Cleveland," said Executive Director Peggy Davis, "and as of now we have raised $114,434.14"
The United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County funds several organizations including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Red Cross, Our House and the West Bolivar Christian Association.
"If we don't reach our goal, then our member agencies suffer which causes the people in Bolivar County and possibly our neighbors to suffer," said Davis.
“United We Win is a fun way to get tennis players and those who enjoy playing tennis involved in helping the United Way,” said Jefferys, who added the public is not only invited to play but also encouraged to watch and make donations.
For $35, each player will be treated to lunch and life music, plus they will be given a T-shirt from the event.
In order to be included in the draw, entry forms must be received by Wednesday.
“Those interested can pick up forms from the Cleveland Country Club or contact Aaron Lasker at 662-843-2777,” said Jeffreys.
Entry forms are also available at www.unitedwayclevbc.org.
Lasker said he would take entries by phone.
"We want everyone to participate and make this a great event for tennis and United Way, so we'll do whatever we need to do to make this a success," he added.
Mail entries to Cleveland Country Club, 601 Fayette Davis Avenue, Cleveland, MS 38732 or e-mail them to email@example.com.
