Daya said owning a hotel in Cleveland has always been a long-time dream of his.
“I love this town -- Cleveland. Delta State University is here and it’s the perfect middle ground,” he said.
“Cleveland is not a big city but it’s not necessarily a small town either.
“My primary motivation for coming here was DSU. My children now have the opportunity to go to a university and still be at home.”
Despite having a degree in chemical engineering and a background in the field of chemistry, Daya has been in the hotel business since graduating college.
“I started out in this business after graduating and I’ve been doing it ever since.
“I’ve some 32 years in the hotel business, running hotels from Greenville to Louisiana, and now Cleveland. “
According to Daya, the renovations needed to the property were minimal and mostly cosmetic.
“Construction went incredibly well. There were a few cases in which we needed to update some electrical or plumbing, but overall most of the work was cosmetic.”
All of the current rooms have been updated and remodeled.
Daya plans to initially open 40 of the 80 hotel rooms while the other rooms are being remodeled.
According to Daya, Kenny Patel will be managing all of the hotel’s property 24-7.
“We plan to open the next building within the next three to four months.”
Historically, the hotel’s location has housed a restaurant adjacent to the hotel.
“There is always the possibility of renting the property out, but we don’t have any plans to run the restaurant ourselves.
“Of course we will still offer continental breakfast and coffee at the hotel but we don’t have any plans of opening the restaurant, although, we'll welcome anyone who would like to rent the property and open the restaurant. “
According to Daya, all too often people visit Cleveland and are hard pressed to find an affordable place to stay while in town.
“We feel there is a need to offer economy hotels at a reasonable price to the city of Cleveland.”
“I remember a time when some visitors came for a swim meet at DSU and they were being sent to Greenville and other areas because they were unable to find affordable rooms.
“I told myself that day that there was a need for affordable hotel rooms in Cleveland, and I thought why not offer them myself.”
Daya is excited about opening the hotel and thankful for the opportunity to run a hotel in Cleveland.
“We love this town and are very thankful for the city helping all along the way with inspections and the entire renovation process.”
