Clarence Stewart, Jr. was more than hot Tuesday night as the senior shooting guard helped lead the East Side Trojans to an 82-29 victory over the Winona High Tigers in the first round of the 3A North Half Playoffs in Cleveland.

The Trojans are now 23-5 and will advance to the quarterfinals of the 3A North Half Playoffs in Aberdeen. East Side will take on Belmont at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Stewart put on a shooting exhibition nailing 12 three-point shots (12-of-15) and connecting on 15-of-20 attempts from the field for a career and game-high 42 points. Stewart's 12 three-point shots in a game is a school record.

“He is a good shooter, but so far this season he hadn’t been hitting anywhere like he was tonight so we gave him the green light and ran some sets for him,” East Side head coach Leroy Cotton said. “I’ve never seen anything like it in this gym. That was a flurry.”

Stewart said he was just trying to do whatever it took to help his team win.

“I was just trying to make shots,” Stewart said. “I’ve never shot the ball like that and it felt good. I’m trying to do whatever it takes to get this team to Jackson. Last year, we were four points from getting there.”

The Trojans jumped out on the Tigers early with a 23-5 lead. In the second quarter, East Side opened its lead even further as Stewart really got going by scoring 22 points in the quarter to give him 28 points in the first half and push the Trojans to a 59-14 halftime lead.

Stewart continued his onslaught in the third quarter connecting on his first five shots, which made it nine consecutive baskets going back to the second quarter. Out of those nine made baskets, eight were three-point shots.

Joining Stewart was Jon Paul Davis with 11 points, Bobby Jones Jr., with nine points and eight rebounds, and Perry Henry with eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.

In other North 3A action it was Aberdeen beating Humphreys County 106-41. Aberdeen will now take on North Panola at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Ruleville Central Tigers (13-14) had a hard time and lost to Kemper County 74-63. Kemper County will now play Holly Springs at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

In the other matchup, the J.J. McClain Mustangs will play Booneville at 4 p.m. Thursday.
