“I am asking everyone to come out throughout Bolivar County and help us celebrate, dedicate and bless the grand opening of the new Shaw Police Department,”
said Shaw Police Chief Anthony Gibson.
Gibson said he, the staff and local residents are very excited about the new building.
“This building is just one stepping stone for the beautification of the city of Shaw,” Gibson said.
Previously, the Shaw Police Department was located on 303 White Oak St., until the building was condemned by the health department.
As a result, the Shaw Police Department was forced to vacate its building in April.
After a plumbing issue, officers were relocated to city hall while the old city hall building was being renovated.
However, according to Gibson, the old city hall building had also been condemned and had a great deal of damage, including the roof, and had no running water.
As of April 1, Gibson reported he and the other officers had moved to a building next to city hall that he personally was in the process of renovating.
Gibson said he invested his own money and labor toward the completion of the building, but the project started under former mayor of Shaw Willie Mae Johnson.
Johnson said the project was funded mostly through donations, and volunteers and inmates helped with the completion of the new building.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported, prayed and given their precious time and services to the renovation of the building,” Gibson said.
