Immense changes are ahead for two school districts in Bolivar County.

North and West Bolivar County School districts will have new superintendents, beginning the 2014/2015 school year.

The North Bolivar Consolidated School District has a new superintendent but the search is still on for the West Bolivar Consolidated School District superintendent.

Chairman of West Bolivar Consolidated School District school board Evereth Stanton said he and other board members are narrowing down their candidates.

"Things are going well in our search for a new superintendent. We have interviewed two of our finalists and we will be interviewing the third one on Saturday morning," said Stanton.

"We had a total of nine applicants but one of them had an incomplete application; therefore, we had eight to actually qualify," he added.

Stanton said members of the board are looking for an individual who has a strong educational background, leadership abilities, knowledge of financial budgeting and curriculum and many other qualities.

"We plan to have chosen a new superintendent within the next week. The school board actually does the hiring but we did hire an agency to perform a superintendent search," continued Stanton.

The hiring of new superintendents for both districts is a result of the Mississippi Legislature's decision to reduce the number of school districts in Bolivar County. The legislature mandated that the five county districts be condensed to two.

The North Bolivar Consolidated School District will encompass North Bolivar and Mound Bayou Districts and the West Bolivar Consolidated School District will include West Bolivar School District, Shaw School District and Benoit School Districts.

Administrative consolidation is to take place during the 2014 school year.

Bolivar County is the only county in the state that has 6 school districts.

The Cleveland School District will not be affected.
