Ruleville calls close election

Ruleville City Clerk April Marks announced the unofficial election results this morning for yesterday's municipal primary elections.

Marks said the numbers would change slightly when absentee and affidavit ballots are counted after 5 p.m. today.

Running for mayor were incumbent Shirley Edwards, 650 votes, and R.L. Brand, 298 votes.

Rodney “Doc” Frothingham will run for mayor as an independent in the June 4 general election.

Aldermen Ward 1 results: Jo Anne Frothingham, 117; Eddie Childs, 182; and Betty Miller, 31.

Incumbent Jay Nash ran unopposed in Ward 2 and finished with 122 votes.

Aldermen Ward 3 results: incumbent Marvin Hawkins, 147; and Mary I. Robinson 103.

Aldermen Ward 4 results: incumbent James “Butch” Jenkins, 111; and Willie Robinson, 114.

Aldermen-at-large results: incumbent Billy Marlow, 478; and Rickey Scott, 471

LaScherrie Jones Wilson will run as an independent candidate for Ward 1 in the general election.
