The event will begin at 9 a.m. and all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Registration is $100 per team and registration forms may be retrieved from Walgreens of Cleveland.
"We are calling out to all local businesses to put together teams and have fun while donating to a worthy cause. Our team is ready and we are awaiting the competition," said Walgreens Community Manager Andre Harris.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older and equipment will be provided.
"There are so many people affected by cancer in our community and we just want to do what we can to help our community. I feel that this is a wonderful event that will enable us to make a contribution to such a worthy cause," added Harris.
The American Cancer Society predicts that there will be an estimated 1,665,540 new cancer cases diagnosed and 585,720 cancer deaths in the United States this year.
Cancer remains the second most common cause of death in the United States, accounting for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths.
Bolivar County’s Relay For Life event will be held June 6 at Cleveland High School.
At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much.
"We are very excited about this event. Walgreens is a highly competitive company and so are our employees. We are ready for the challenge," added Harris.
Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement.
For more than 65 years, the American Cancer Society has been finding answers that save lives - from changes in lifestyle to new approaches in therapies to improving cancer patients' quality of life.
No single non-governmental, not-for-profit organization in the United States has invested more to find the causes and cures of cancer.
"The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer. We hope to raise around $1,000 – refreshments will be available," he added.
Harris said in the past, Walgreen's Relay for Life has hosted many events and this year they wanted to spice things up a bit by rallying citizens to come out and get their hands a little dirty.
"We came up with the concept of hosting the tournament after discussing some of our past fundraisers. Our store does a fundraiser each year for Relay For Life and we felt that a softball tournament would be a fun event that would cater to the entire family," Harris said.
