It may seem a little unorthodox but a Relay For Life team is hosting a 5k Walk/Run to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Each team for the Relay For Life is responsible for raising money through the fundraiser of their choice.

The Morrison Chapel Baptist Church Team has chosen a 5k Walk/Run to be held Saturday at Cleveland Funeral Home.

Coined “Running for a Cure,” the team event is set to begin at 7 a.m. with registration. The race will start at 8 a.m.

Registration fee is $30.

Coordinator Nancy Nassar said, all participants would receive a T-shirt and bottled water before the event starts.

“There will also be an award ceremony to follow immediately after the race to honor first, second and third place winners with medallions.”

“We really need runners and walkers, to come and join us, said Nassar.

Bolivar County’s Relay For Life event will begin at 6 p.m. June 7 at the Cleveland High School track.

The tradition 12-hour event is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

Local businesses, church, clubs and others form teams of 10 or people each given the task of raising at least $100 dollars.

Money, most of which is usually raised before the event, will go to research, recovery programs, aid to family and those in hospitals and scholarships.

The Relay event is the celebration of funds raised and will include a Survivors Walk and a luminary ceremony.
