The John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets and the West Bolivar Eagles won the District 3-2A Track and Field Meets held at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena.
The meet began over the weekend and conclude on Monday.
The Lady Hornets won the girls meet with 175 points while the Eagles won the boys meet with 140 points. In the girls meet, West Bolivar also finished second with 95 while Broad Street took sixth with 20 points. In the boys meet, Broad Street finished third with 67 points while JFK took fourth with 62 points.
In the girls meets, Porche Robinson led the Lady Hornets as she won the 400-meter dash (1:01.88), the 200-meter dash (26.18) and the 100-meter dash (12.83). Porshia Shelton won the 3,200-meter run (14:58) and Doraneshia Robinson won the triple jump (30-08) to round out the individual winners for the Lady Hornets.
JFK’s relay team of Latina Jones, Jarvis Malone, Deneshia Wilson and Shelton won the 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 4:30.84, and JFK’s relay team of Shanell Douglas, Jones, Malone and Robinson won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.40 seconds.
Jaqueese Wilson also won the girls 100-meter hurdles (17.09) for West Bolivar.
West Bolivar’s Kateya Johnson, Breanna Faust, Tashidra Devine and Wilson won the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:48.69.
In the boys meet, Kailo Moore won the 100-meter dash (10.54) and the 200-meter dash (20.87) to lead the Eagles. Mack Foster won the high jump (6-0), and Deguaderick Rice won the 800-meter run (2:09.50) to round out the individual winners for the Eagles.
The Eagles shined in the relays as they won the 4x100-meter relay (43.13), the 4x200-meter relay (1:31.05) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.62).
The 4x100-meter relay team consisted of Moore, Foster, Travoris Hampton and Terrance Matthews. Foster, Hampton and Moore, along with Jovis Wade, comprised the 4x200-meter team, and Wade, along with Steven Archic, Lakendrick Usry and Rice, made up the 4x400-meter team.
Broad Street’s Darius Hill won the 400-meter dash (1:01.88), and JFK’s Octavius Taylor won the 1,600-meter run (5:00) and the 3,200-meter run (11:02).
CHS girls take 2nd, CHS boys finish 3rd
The Cleveland High Wildcats and Lady Wildcats had a strong showing at the District 3-4A Track and Field Meet at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena.
The Lady Wildcats scored 111 points to finish in a tie for second with Yazoo County in the girls division. Greenwood ended up winning the meet with 115 points in the girls division.
The Wildcats scored 104 points to finish behind Amanda Elzy (122) and Greenwood (110) in the boys division.

In the girls meet, Elaine Vyles won the 800-meter run (2:52.39), the 1,600-meter run (6:43) and the 3,200-meter run (16:53) to lead the Lady Wildcats. Kierra Gardner won the long jump (15-05) to round out the individual winners.
Cleveland’s relay team of Gardner, Antonique McGee, Brittany Thigpen and Imani Burns won the 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 4:37.50.
“They’ve done the best that they’ve done in probably seven years,” Lady Wildcats head track coach Jody Wright said. “We’ve done better in all the events this year. Ashley Brown is our senior and she does four of our field events. Our juniors and sophomores have come together and built up our relay teams.”
In the boys events, Raymond Gee won the 400-meter dash (51.28) and the triple jump (40-06) to lead the Wildcats. Omar Sharabati won the 1,600-meter run (4:55), Gared Watkins won the 800-meter run (2:11.29) and William Hawkins won the 3,200-meter run (12:20) to round out the individual winners for the Wildcats.
“Overall, I was happy with the results,” Wildcats head boys track coach James Strong said. “We had four guys from last year’s team that moved away. We’ll take a third place finish. We’ll get ready for regionals on Saturday.”
Cleveland’s relay team of Antonius Howze, Gee, Watkins and Sharabati wont the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:37.15.
Both Cleveland teams will compete in the region meets at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena on Saturday.
