The Bayou Academy Colts won their second game in a row by defeating the West Memphis Christian Black Knights in a District 1-A contest Friday night at Colt Field.
The Colts improved to 3-2 with a 2-1 mark in the district, while West Memphis fell to 1-4 with 1-1 mark in the district.
Bayou’s offense piled up 432 yards of total offense. The Colts rushed for 339 yards on 47 carries on the ground, while completing 3-of-5 passes for 93 yards.
Ty Holder led the Colts’ offense as he rushed for 76 yards with four touchdowns on 15 carries. Hunter Kovac was Bayou’s leading rusher with 128 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, followed by Davis Dalton with 73 yards on 10 carries and Caleb Pilgrim with 62 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Passing wise, Tyler Kitchings completed 2-of-3 passes for 78 yards, while Pilgrim completed 1-of-2 passes for 15 yards for Bayou. Pilgrim also had two receptions for 78 yards, and Weber Herbison caught a 15-yard pass.
Bayou will return to the football field on Friday when the team hits the road to Helena, Ark. To play the DeSoto School Thunderbirds. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
JFK 20, Leland 14
The 2A John F. Kennedy Hornets earned a big win over the 3A Leland High School Cubs Friday night at Leland.
JFK improved to 2-3, while Leland fell to 2-3. Eugene Pruitt led the Hornets’ offense by rushing for 91 yards with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion on 16 carries, followed by Carnez Gant with 56 yards on 14 carries and Ladaris Johnson with 32 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
On defense, Demorris Bedford led the Hornets with seven tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown, followed by Gant with six tackles, Garriet Wilson and Xavier Roberts with four tackles each, Damian Hodges with three tackles including two sacks and Trevell Parris with an interception.
JFK will return to action on Friday when the team hosts O’Bannon at Mound Bayou. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Shaw 61, McAdams 0
The Shaw High School Hawks, the No. 3 team in the AP 1A Poll, had no problems in defeating the McAdams High School Bulldogs in a Region 2-1A game Friday night.
Shaw won its fourth in a row and improved to 4-1 with a 2-0 mark in the region, while McAdams fell to 0-5.
The Hawks led 29-0 after the first quarter and never looked back. Andre Pruitt was efficient throwing the football for Shaw as he completed 3-of-5 passes for 80 yards with two touchdowns. Pruitt also went 5-of-7 on PAT kicks. Olijadade Blakes caught two passes for 56 yards with a touchdown to lead the receivers, followed by Ledavious Rice with a 24 yard TD catch.
In the ground game, Jermarquis Stimmage led the Hawks with 46 yards and two touchdowns on three carries, followed by Damon Redding with 42 yards and two touchdowns on five carries, Justin King with 36 yards and a 2-point conversion on three carries. Christopher Harthone with 28 yards and a touchdown on three carries and Lekia McRoy with a 20-yard TD run.
On defense for Shaw, Rice led the Hawks with six tackles, a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown and two fumble recoveries, followed by Lerandal Allen with four tackles and an interception, Harthone with three tackles and a sack, King and Xavius Loggins with four tackles each and Stimmage with an interception.
Shaw will return to the football field on Friday when the team hits the road to play French Camp.
Aberdeen 45, West Bolivar 28
The West Bolivar Eagles, the No. 4 team in the AP 2A Poll, suffered its second straight loss by falling to the Aberdeen High School Bulldogs Friday night at Leland Young Stadium in Rosedale.
West Bolivar fell to 3-2, while Aberdeen improved to 3-2
West Bolivar senior running back Kailo Moore had a tough night as he was held to -5 rushing yards on six carries. Trevoris Hampton was the Eagles’ leading rusher with 72 yards and a touchdown on four carries, followed by William Lloyd with 49 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
In the passing game, Kylan Johnson completed 11-of-25 passes for 117 yards with a TD pass. Dennis Pendleton was the Eagles’ leading receiver with three catches for 49 yards, followed by Ladarius Tucker with two catches for 30 yards, Davon Harris with three catches for 27 yards and Rashan Conway with two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Lloyd led the Eagles with nine tackles, followed by Dalvin Williams and Kebeon Clinton with eight tackles each, Tucker with six tackles and a sack, Kawonski Williams and Rashan Conway with five tackles each and Harris with three tackles and an interception.
West Bolivar will return to the gridiron on Friday when the team hosts Leland in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Simmons 33, Ruleville 14
The Ruleville Central Tigers fell to 0-5 by losing the Simmons High School Blue Devils Friday night in Hollandale.
Simmons scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to pull away with the win. The Blue Devils improved to 1-3.
Ruleville will return to the gridiron on Friday when the team hosts Broad Street at 7:30 p.m. in Ruleville.
Russell Christian 55, NSA 8
The North Sunflower Academy Rebels fell to the Russell Christian Academy Warriors in District 5A 8-man football action Friday night in Meridian.
NSA fell to 0-5, while Russell Christian improved to 5-0.
NSA will be back in action on Friday when the team hosts Calhoun in a 7 p.m. contest.
Jr. High Football
JFK Jr. High 26, MGJH 6
The John F. Kennedy Junior High Hornets cruised past the Margaret Green Junior High Wildcats Thursday night in gridiron action.
JFK improved to 3-0. Devante Davis scored two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to lead the Hornets, followed by Kentrell Starks with two receiving touchdowns. Jakevius Dye led the Hornets’ passing attack by completing 4-of-6 passes for 103 yards with two touchdowns.
Rundell James led JFK’s defense with eight tackles and an intercepted return for 25 yards.
JFK will return to the football field on Thursday when the team host Ray Brooks in Mound Bayou.
