3A Boys North Half Playoffs (Mooreville)

East Side Boys 58, Water Valley 33

The East Side Trojans (22-9) made their presence felt in the quarterfinals of the 3A North State playoffs Thursday.

The Trojans blasted the Water Valley Blue Devils by 25 points to advance to the semifinals against top seeded Booneville at 6 p.m. tonight.

Jon Paul Davis led East Side with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Perry Henry chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.

"I'm proud of the guys and the way they battled. They played extremely hard tonight. All year this group has exceeded expectations," Trojans head coach Leroy Cotton said.

"Tonight against Booneville we are going to have to play really good ball. I think they are the best team in 3A, but if we can get by them we will have a strong chance to win it all," Cotton added.

If the Trojans win tonight, the will play in the North Half Championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

North Panola Boys 49, Ruleville 48

The Ruleville Central Tigers (18-8) were seemingly in control of this quarterfinals matchup with North Panola.

The Tigers led North Panola 36-22 at halftime and held a 48-42 lead with 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Costly turnovers haunted the Tigers as North Panola forced several to take a 49-48 lead.

Ruleville had one last chance, but Tyquan Rule's three-point attempt missed and the attempted tip-in off the missed shot rolled out as North Panola held on for the win.

Demarcus Bracey led Ruleville with 16 points and Xavier Appleberry scored 12 points in the loss.

3A Girls North Half Playoffs (Ripley)

Ruleville Girls 48, North Panola 24

The Ruleville Central Lady Tigers (19-7) are clicking at the right time. The Lady Tigers won the Region 4-3A championship, knocked off Kossuth in the first round of the 3A Playoffs and last night they handled North Panola in the quarterfinal round of the girl's 3A playoffs by 24 points.

With the win, Ruleville will now play Ripley at 6 p.m. tonight. If the Lady Tigers win, they will play for the North Half Title on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Shakira Singleton led Ruleville with 19 points, while Brunetta Cockrell and Miracle Fonzy scored nine points each.

Charleston Girls 55, East Side 42

The East Side Trojanettes' (25-5) season came to a bitter end Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 3A North Half Playoffs.

East Side played well in the first quarter, but they were outscored 17-9 in the second and 12-7 in the third quarter.

LaShyra Cotton ended her stellar senior season with 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Errica Blair scored 11 points in the loss.

2A Boys North Half Playoffs (Baldwyn)

Hollandale Boys 53, Broad Street 46

The Broad Street Jaguars (13-14) let one get away in the quarterfinals of the 2A North Half Playoffs.

Broad Street led Hollandale 34-29 going into the fourth quarter, but in the final period Hollandale outscored Broad Street 24-14 to take the win.

Flo Robinson led Broad Street with 15 points, followed by Ade Jones with 11 points and Ladarius Walker with 10 points.

S.V. Marshall Boys 51, West Bolivar 44

The West Bolivar Eagles (19-7) fell short of their quest to make it to Jackson in boys hoops Thursday with a heart breaking loss to S.V. Marshall.

Frank Fields led West Bolivar with 15 points.

2A Girls North Half Playoffs

South Delta Girls 48, JFK 44

The John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets (20-6) saw their season end Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2A Girls North Half Playoffs as they fell to South Delta.

Ieysha Mays led JFK with 18 points, followed by Frederica Haywood with 17 points and Jarvis Malone with seven points.

1A North Half Boys Tournament

Shaw Boys 67, Tremont 45

The Shaw High School Hawks cruised past Tremont in the quarterfinals of the 1A North Half Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday night at Ingomar.

Shaw improved to 25-5 and will play Coldwater tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The winner will play in the North Half Championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Hawks led 29-18 at halftime. Jermarquis Stimage led the Hawks with 19 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists, followed by Ledavious Rice with 18 points and three rebounds, Andre Pruitt with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Octavious Stimage with 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Class A State Boys Basketball Tournament

Porter’s Chapel Boys 70, Bayou 31

The Bayou Academy Colts saw their basketball season come to a close as they fell to the Porter’s Chapel Eagles in the quarterfinals of the Class A Boys Basketball State Tournament Thursday evening at Rebul Academy in Learned.

Tyler Kitchings led the Colts with nine points, followed by Caleb Pilgrim with seven points, Chantz Arbuckle with six points and Christian Collins with five points.

Bayou ended its season at 24-4.
