At about 2:50a.m. today, the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a parked police cruiser on fire in front of city hall.

The cruiser was burning on the hood and in the interior of the passenger side of the car.

The fire is thought to have started under the hood.

Rosedale Mayor Carey Estes and Fire Chief Guy Smith suspect that arson may have been a factor in the cruiser fire, although it is still under investigation.

The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department and the Fire Marshall are investigating the fire today to determine the cause.

Although the Rosedale Fire Department extinguished the cruiser fire by 3:15 a.m., the fire totaled the police cruiser.
