Myrl Poynor Barfield, 87, of Bruce died Friday, July 12, 2013 at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 14, 2013 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. Robert Earl Alexander assisted by the Rev. Rex Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Bruce Cemetery under the direction of Parker Memorial Funeral Homes.

Visitation was held from noon until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barfield born September 17, 1925 in Banner was a homemaker, factory worker, restaurant owner, and a member of Lantrip Baptist Church.

Barfield was preceded in death by her husband, Knox Barfield; parents, Nathaniel Davis Poynor and Lila Pearl Harrison Poynor; three sisters, Lois Crutchfield, Shirley Stone and Reba Barefield; three brothers, Ula Poynor, Laburn Poynor and Carl Poynor.

She is survived by four children, Tommy Barfield (Olga) of LaGrange, Ga., Wayne Barfield (Dianne) of Gainesville, Fla., Danny Barfield (Deborah) of Cleveland and Carolyn Nettles (Bill) of Dry Prong, La.; two brothers, Bedford “Pete” Poynor and Charles Poynor, both of Bruce; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Dennis Barfield. Kyle Barfield, Dobbie Poynor, Bill Wilburn, Bradley Wilburn, and Kent Wilburn. Honorary pallbearers were Pete Johnson and Johnny Weeks.
