Mary Washington, 79, of Shaw died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Joy Health and Rehab Center in Cleveland.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Pilgrim Rest Church in Shaw with the Rev. Harold Wilson officiating. Burial immediately followed the services in the church cemetery under the direction of Delta Burial of Mound Bayou.

Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at the funeral home in Mound Bayou and from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the church.

Washington was born on August 2, 1933, in Panthburn to Gilbert Hackler and Idella Harris-Hackler. She was a retired farmer and housewife. She married Edward Washington on January 4, 1965. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Hackler; husband, Edward Washington; son, James Porter; three sisters, Marie Louis, Iretha Hackler, and Bernitha Hackler; three brothers, Andy, Amos, and Andrew Hackler.

Survivors, her son, Robert Porter Jr. of Greenwood; one sister, Johnny Mae Colby of Chicago; grandson; Caregiver and nephew, Calvin Thomas of Cleveland; a daughter-in-law; sister-in-law; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
