On your mark, get ready, set, now go to the 2nd Annual Mound Bayou 5K run/walk!

Mound Bayou is hosting its annual 5k run/walk on Saturday with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the race beginning at 8 a.m.

Registration is $20.

A Healthy Mound Bayou and Vincient Braugher, fitness trainer and former resident of Mound Bayou, are the sponsors.

Runners and walkers may register at Smitty's restaurant on Old U.S. Highway 61 the day of the event or go online to www.ahealthymoundbayou.com.

There is no age limit for the event, children 12 and under get in free.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Arts and Science Department of Mound Bayou Public School System.

Last year, the event had about 40 participants, but this year the event is projected to have over 300.

"It is bigger than we could have ever imagined. We want everybody to come out! We all know that a healthy diet and proper exercise are needed to maintain healthy living. "We, a healthy Mound Bayou, promote just that," said Braugher.

A Healthy Mound Bayou was originally setup to educate Mound Bayou citizens about healthy living through social media.

"You can't do better if you don't know any better,” said Braugher. "Social media has truly helped us to reach out and educate people on healthy living. I started the event on Facebook one Sunday and by Tuesday I had so many followers! It went from having 15 members to having almost 1600 followers in a year's time," said Braugher.

Participants who preregister for the event will receive a T-shirt and all other participants will receive water and a healthy snack.

"No one goes outside any more. Kids are not playing because they sit in the house all day playing video games. I want to give them a reason to come outside.

"It was something that God put on me to do. If you work out and eat right, you have a better chance of having a better quality of life," said Braugher.

Once the race is over, participants have the option of preregistering for next year's run.

"Next year is going to be really big. The race will have live coverage", said Braugher.
