School sets public meeting

The Mound Bayou School District will conduct a public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria of I.T. Montgomery School.

To be discussed will be the school consolidation.

All citizens are encouraged to attend.

Haywood awarded scholarship

The Shelby Chamber of Commerce recently awarded a $500 scholarship to Kendra Haywood, a graduate of Broad Street High School.

To receive the scholarship, Haywood wrote and submitted an essay titled "Should test scores be used to determine a school's competency."

Chamber President Geraldine C. Grammer made the presentation.

Haywood will be attending Colorado College beginning in the fall.

Delta State's Foster honored

Delta State University College of Business student Wilnessa Foster, a finance major from Alligator, is presented the W.A. Duckworth Memorial Financial Planning Award by Delta State Instructor of Insurance Jim Brown.

The W.A. Duckworth Memorial Financial Planning Award is a cash award and plaque given to the outstanding senior majoring in finance with an emphasis in financial planning. Foster also received several other recognitions including the Statewide Federal Credit Union Finance Award, awarded to an outstanding finance student; and the Cleveland State Bank N.L. “Nap” Cassibry, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship, awarded to a full time student majoring in a degree program in the College of Business. During the 2011-2012 academic year, Foster served as the president of the Business Student Advisory Council and the vice-president of the Financial Management Association.

The awards and scholarship were recognized at the Delta State College of Business Awards and Scholarships Recognition Banquet sponsored by the Business Students Advisory Council. The event was held in the State Room of the H.L. Nowell Union on the campus.

Bridge Club winners announced

The Cleveland Duplicate Bridge Club held its regular weekly game on June 20.

The winners were:

1st place — Clint Black of Merigold and Don Conger of Malvina

2nd place — Robin Horton of Scott and Evelyn Pearce of Cleveland
