As Christmas celebrations bring joy to facilities and events throughout Bolivar County, don't forget about the holiday happenings at your local library.

Youth Services Librarian Bobbie Matheney at the Robinson-Carpenter Memorial Library in Cleveland will host a special event on Dec. 20 featuring Father Christmas himself.

Story Time With Santa will begin at 4 p.m. in the Children's Room for youth under 12.

"We're expecting a great turn out of children because Santa will be there to read a few books to the kids," said Matheney. "We're excited to help everyone get in the holiday spirit.

"If the children are really good, Santa might even have a gift for them."

Both the Benoit and Shaw branches will also be hosting Christmas parties.

The Field Memorial Library in Shaw will put on a kid's party Monday at 3:30 p.m. and refreshments will be provided.

The Benoit Public Library will host a kid's party at 4 p.m. Dec. 20.

Lynn Shurden, library system director, said many braches throughout the county are already in the mood for the holiday season.

"The staff at our different libraries have beautifully decorated the interiors," Shurden said. "We invite friends, old and new, to visit the library during Christmas time."

Shurden also said there is excitement in the air in regard to new library technology.

Beginning Tuesday, electronic books, or eBooks, will be available from the library.

Electronic books feature texts and images in digital form and are readable on computers, tablets and other electronic devices.

Matheney also extended a big thanks for the donation of a large battery-operated roller coaster model, which will now be on display in the Children's Room in the Robinson-Carpenter Memorial Library.

The library branches will be closed from Dec. 22-26 and Dec. 29-Jan. 1. Regular schedules will resume Jan. 2.
