There has been a great deal of controversy brewing over the election for the mayor of Drew.

Harvey "World B" Burchfield allegedly beat former Mayor Jeffery Kilpatrick but according to Kilpatrick, Burchfield is not suited for the position.

"When I first learned the results, I went to shake his hand and say congratulations. I started clearing things out of my office," said Kilpatrick in a previous interview. "But then I learned that three people filed charges against him for bribery and it's actually going to be four people. He paid people to get their votes."

In the aforementioned interview, Burchfield, who previously served as a city alderman and Kilpatrick's assistant mayor, denied these claims.

"It's a whole pack of lies," said Burchfield. "These lies have been going on since before the election."

Kilpatrick said he protested the election results just two days after the vote and he has taken the necessary steps with the Drew Election Commission and Mississippi Secretary of State's office.

On Tuesday, an anonymous caller notified The Bolivar Commercial that the ballot box from the June election was being opened in Indianola.

"Both attorneys were allowed to make copies of everything inside of the ballot box and they are going to get back with the judge," said Kilpatrick.

A court date has been set for Monday and Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Indianola Courthouse.
