The Colts played strong defense as they defeated the Tri-County Academy Rebels 46-38 in the first round Wednesday evening. The Colts improved to 24-3, and will play Porter’s Chapel tonight at 7:45 p.m. with the game to be broadcast on AM1490.
The Colts’ defense flexed its muscles early on by keeping the Rebels off the scoreboard for the first three minutes and 22 seconds of the first quarter. The Rebels hit six free throws but made just one shot in the field in the first quarter, enabling Bayou to take an 11-8 lead heading into the second quarter. The Colts continued to stand their ground as they took a 20-16 lead at halftime.
The Colts’ offense poured it on in the third quarter by scoring 18 points. When the third quarter came to a close, Bayou held a good 38-23 advantage.
The Rebels tried to make a run in the last quarter, but the Colts were able to hang on for the victory.
Tyler Kitchings had a strong game for Bayou as he recorded a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. He also recorded two steals, blocked a shot and took three charges.
Caleb Pilgrim was the leading scorer for the Colts with 16 points and four rebounds, followed by Chantz Arbuckle with nine points and four rebounds.
