Ten Delta State University students from the Delta Music Institute program touched down in Washington, D.C., Tuesday afternoon. This marks the first trip to the White House for the students. Today, the students will participate in an educational program, "I Am Every Woman: The Women of Soul," which is sponsored by GRAMMY LA. In addition to the educational program, the students will participate in several tours of the Nation's capital. This trip was made possible by donations from an event held at the Cleveland Country Club last week. The event featured the DMI All-Stars with special guest, Tricia Walker, Jessica Faith, one of three national winners in the GRAMMY Amplify contest, and Justin Boatman, recording artist for Fighting Okra Records. The students performed music made famous by Mississippi GRAMMY artists. The event was organized and sponsored by the Cleveland Music Foundation and the GRAMMY Mississippi Board of Directors. Over $5,000 was raised through the event, the donations were used to cover the travel expenses for the students traveling to Washington, D.C.
