The Cleveland Police Department is diligently investigating a shooting at Lee Street Liquor that occurred around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Chief Buster Bingham said a lone individual wearing a red shirt and a mask walked into the store, where two clerks were working at the time.

The gunman shot one clerk in the right shoulder and then left the store. Bingham said the incident was not an armed robbery — the suspect did not take anything nor attempted to take anything.

"The clerk was taken to the Bolivar Medical Center and later transported to the MED in Memphis," said Bingham. "The victim is awaiting surgery today and is in stable condition."

The CPD is continuing its investigation and asks that anyone with information call the department at 662-843-3611.

"Or they can call the Cleveland-Bolivar County CrimeStoppers hotline at 1-800-222-TIPS," said Bingham. "Everything is confidential and there's a possibility of a cash reward if a suspect is arrested and prosecuted.

"We want to make sure we catch criminals and get them off the street. Please call with any information related to this crime or other crimes."
