CHS drops Game 1

The Cleveland High School Lady Wildcats had a tough night in the first game of a three-game series in the first round of the 4A state fastpitch softball playoffs as they lost to the Houston High School Lady Hilltoppers 12-2 Thursday in Houston.

The game was cut short after five innings due to the 10-run rule. Cleveland fell to 15-9, while Houston improved to 21-6.

Cleveland and Houston will play game two of the series today at 4 p.m. in Cleveland with a third game, if necessary, to be played immediately after.

Houston scored two runs in the first, four runs in the second and six runs in the fourth. Cleveland scored its only two runs in the fifth.

Brianna Garner took the loss in the circle as she pitched four innings and gave up 12 hits with a strikeout and three walks.

Megan Skelton tagged two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Lady Wildcats, followed by Morgan Ray and Garner with two hits each and Reagan Walker, Cassie Skelton and Lauren Ashley Collins with a hit each.
