Cleveland merchants were bustling with business with the Dixie Youth AA Coach Pitch/Machine Pitch National Regional Tournament, the 6-man scramble golf tournament and the sales tax holiday all happening this past weekend.

“There was good business this weekend with people in town with the baseball tournament and golf tournament,” said Executive Director of Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce Judson Thigpen. “There were a lot of people in town. I would say the brisk weekend for the merchants could have been a combination of the tax free holiday and the tournaments that were in town.”

Amy Vance, manager of Punkin Patch, commented, “The weekend went really well. We had a lot of people come in from in and out of town.”

She also mentioned a lot of people knew about the sales tax weekend but there were quite a few that weren’t aware of it and were pleasantly surprised.

“It was a very nice tax free weekend,” said Danny Abraham, owner of Abraham’s. “It was hard to tell if people were coming in from the baseball and golf tournaments or for the tax free weekend.”

Abraham added he had a lot of regulars and also out of towners come in.

“It was a very good, brisk and busy weekend,” he said “Everyone came in mighty pleased and we’re very proud and pleased of the business we got this weekend.”

Cleveland Mayor Billy Nowell commented, “I really want to give credit and thanks to Cleveland Park Commission Director Stephen Glorioso, and his staff, the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, Sam Dunning, Cleveland Country Club Manager Aaron Lasker, and everyone else for making all the events this past weekend a success. Things just don’t happen on their own without people pitching in.”

Nowell also added the merchants were quite elated with all the business this past weekend.

“One merchant even told me it was like Christmas in July because they were so busy,” he said.
