A Cleveland suspect took his need for cigarettes to the max in the early morning hours Monday.

Jonathan Davis, 24, was arrested on two counts of burglary after breaking into the Shell station on the intersection of Miss. Highway 8 and Martin Luther King Drive.

Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham said the storeowner quickly replaced the glass door broken by Davis in his attempt to steal cigarettes around 1:10 a.m.

Police immediately began their search for Davis after seeing his profile in the store's surveillance video.

Davis then returned to break into the store a second time around 3:40 a.m. and was apprehended by police after running from the scene.

He was identified as the suspect in the video.

Davis now faces a maximum of seven years for each count of burglary.

"This goes to show that our department is diligent and aims to catch criminals quickly — in this case within the same night," said Bingham. "Our officers did an outstanding job. They don't take anything lightly."

In other criminal news, Eddie Daniel, 48, of Cleveland was charged Friday with sexual battery by Cleveland police.

He was given a $5,000 bond and taken to the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility.

An incident in Pace, still under investigation by the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department, also highlighted the weekend crime beat.

Colon Vaughn, of Pace, was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis around 3 a.m. Monday, after he sustained a cut to his upper left chest.

Vaughn was allegedly attacked by three unknown males next to his cousin's house on Township Road in Pace.

Vaughn was released from the hospital early Monday morning.
