Dr. and Mrs. Darvin E. Barnes of Columbia, formerly of Cleveland, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to George Lafayette Evans III, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Lafayette Evans Jr. of Boyle.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Juel Griffin Jr. of Baton Rouge, La., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Barnes of Columbia.

She is a 2006 graduate of Delta State University, where she studied elementary education, served in numerous positions of Kappa Delta Sorority, and participated in several different organizations. She is a 2010 honor graduate of Mississippi College, where she received her master’s of education in elementary education.

She is currently teaching second grade at Bell Academy.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Mr. Edgar Lee and Mrs. Grace Lee and the late Mr. and Mrs. George Evans Sr., all of Boyle.

He graduated from Delta State University in 2008 with a degree in business administration and continued in his education to receive his MBA from DSU the following year.

He is currently a third party contract coordinator for Delta State and an alderman for the town of Boyle.

The couple will be married at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Skene Baptist Church with a reception to follow at the Delta State University Alumni House. They plan to reside in Boyle.
