The MMHPA will give out back-to-school supplies, on a first come first serve basis.
Bishop Carley L. Sparks said, "I'm a Cleveland native and have always done a back-to school-rally. The Hospice and the MMHPA wanted to reach out because so many kids in the Mississippi Delta did not pass the state civics test.
“So this is not only a backpack giveaway but it is an educational opportunity," he said.
Sparks has invited state senators, county supervisors and mayors to come out and participate in order to allow the children to see and understand who the officials are.
Sparks also mentioned he had a surprise guest for the children.
There will also be free food, a watermelon eating contest, live music, and gift giveaways.
