Eagles win North Half Title

The 2A Boys North Half Track and Field Meet was held Saturday in Potts Camp. The West Bolivar Eagles finished first in the meet with 90 points. Potts Camp came in second with 76 points and Hollandale Simmons finished third with 64 points.

Kailo Moore won the 100-meter dash (10.23), the 400-meter dash (51.49) and the 200-meter dash (21.57) to lead the Eagles.

West Bolivar's Deguadereck Rice won the 1600-meter run (5:01.01) and the 800-meter run (2:09.80). Rice also came in first place in the high jump (6-00.00).

Carlos Robinson won the boys triple jump (44-00.00)

The Eagles finished third in the 4x200 meter relay (1:32.67), fourth in the 4x100 meter relay (45.57) and third in the 4x400 meter relay (3:35.55).

JFK's Octavis Taylor won the boy's 3200-meter run (10:27.00) while his teammate Keenon Bady qualified for state with a fourth place finish (11:27.00). Taylor also finished fourth in the 1600-meter run (5:03.00). JFK's Demorris Bedford won the boy's discus throw (115-07).

The Broad Street Jaguars won the 4x100 meter relay (44.76) and came in fourth in the 4x200 meter relay (1:35.40) to qualify for the state meet. Broad Street's Corey Alexander came in third in the boy's triple jump (42-01.00).

2A Girls

The 2A Girls North Half Track and Field Meet was held Saturday in Potts Camp.

J. Z. George won the meet with 129 points while the John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets finished second with 103 points and the West Bolivar Lady Eagles came in third with 100 points.

The north half meet set up the opportunity for several area runners to compete for a chance at a state title starting Saturday in Pearl at Pearl High School. The top four finishers qualify for the state meet.

Latina Jones led the Lady Hornets with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:01.56) and a first place finish in the long jump (16-04.50). Jarvis Malone won the 300-meter hurdles (49.05) and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.02).

The Lady Hornets came in second in the 4x100 meter relay (53.38) and third in the 4x400 meter relay (4:27.90). Porshia Shelton finished fourth in the 800-meter hurdles (2:38.67). In the girls shot, Alexis Brown finished second (34-00.00) and Ieysha Mays came in third (33-11.00) to aid the Lady Hornets. Mays also came in third in the girl's triple jump (32-06.25). Frederica Haywood came in second in the girls discus throw (93-10).

For West Bolivar, it was Jaqueese Wilson who led the Lady Eagles with wins in the 100-meter hurdles (16.46) the 100-meter dash (12.55) and the 200-meter dash (26.03).

Rachel Hudson finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:06.15) and came in second in the long jump (15-08.75) to help the Lady Eagles' cause. Troyledria Usry came in third in the 300-meter hurdles (52.33) and third in the girls long jump (15-02.75).

Desting Graham qualified for state with a third place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.98). West Bolivar's Jakierra Drummer qualified for the state meet with a fourth place finish in the 3200-meter run (13:44.00).

The Lady Eagles won the 4x100 meter relay (53.36) and the 4x400 meter relay (4:19.27) while finishing third in the 4x200 meter relay (1:51.02).

Broad Street's Lameka President qualified for state in the girls long jump with a third place finish (4-06.00).
